Rodchenko

Rodchenko was a Russian constructivist. His graphic design was mainly focused around designing posters, film captions and book covers. He later experimented with photography capturing different radical angles.

After the invention of the camera the art world took a drastic turn. So many new possibilities had arisen  due to this new technology, they were able to capture never before seen angles. This also shows that although movements affect other movements, there is more then one factor that can  change art history, and that is technology.

Rodchenko is known as one of the founders of constructivism, drawing heavy influence from futurism. Rodchenko also use to paint but gave it up due to the fact that he did not believe art should be just created for arts sake but instead it should speak a universal language serving a purpose. In this case we see how society has had its affect on art, constructivism was during the time of the Russian revolution, and constructivist art had a lot to do with the pushing of propaganda at the time.

I shall now be talking about some of his artistic characteristics. The first thing I notice is his use of colour with conjunction to symmetry. Simple primary colours, flat yet eye catching. Like most art through history the triangle is an aspect which is extremely common through different types of art, it tends to make a work more visually appealing. Combining the colours and the type with the image make this a true graphic design works. Its neat and organized but its direct and to the point. And it clearly is conveying a message
