Dada

Dada is one of those movements that interest me the most. When art rebels. Throughout history humanity has always had a rebellious side. Be it in art, society or music. There were other movements within art that rebelled such as punk. The main difference between punk and dada is the fact that dada was created by artists whilst punks creators had no or little artistic history and it was on the spot works of art.

Something causes rebellion. In this case it was the depression the great war brought along with it. Thses artists decided to rebel by creating a movement that would shock the people. A movement that is in a way a giant satire on life its self. Due to the fact that dada was an anti art movement it drew its inspirations form doing the opposite the art world was doing at the time and what it had done before.

Apart from being an anti art movement it was also an anti establishment and military movement. The illustrations tended to be aggressive, and typography was mainly freely drawn lettering and heavy typefaces. Photomontages were also extremely popular within this movement due to the fact that one could create works which would confuse the people. The ironic part about all this is the fact that at the end of the day the dada movementis considered as an art movement. It has influenced art to come, it has become a min source of inspiration for many graphic designers all around the world.

But in a way the dada movement proved something. They proved that art is not a steady aspect but it is always fluctuating, becoming something that is debatable, something that not every person will perceive within the same way.
