Futurism

Futurism started around 1909. This movement was an art movement within a changing world. The dawn of technology is upon humanity and like anything else it inspired humanity to create something different something new. Futurism is a movement that focused ont technology and dynamic aspects of modern life. It rejected the idea of harmony and order but instead decided to express itself through the art of movement, speed. One of the things futurists also rejected was the museum minded approach to art.

Inspired by machinery and war they created works of speed usually within urban settings. Now comes the interesting bit. With relation to graphic design there are different affecting factors to every work such as focal points, eye movement, line, spacing, negative space and the works. Futurists created works with LINE in mind. They wanted to express speed and movement and achieved this through lines of force, and repeated motifs. There also was an aspect of typography within futurism but this typographical element was within collage.
